Sound

Three Doorways

Three sound pieces exploring a Buddhist teaching which considers how dwelling in each of the three marks of conditioned existence (the Three Laksanas) can lead to a Doorway of Liberation (the Vimoksha Mukhas), or opening into Insight.

Originally created for an online month retreat offered by Red Ladder Studio on the subject of Wabi Sabi (Wabi Sabi is a world view, in traditional Japanese aesthetics, which is centred on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is 'imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete').

An invitation to listen and notice. Where do sounds belong? Where do they begin and where do they end? Do they stay with us or do we let them go? And if we let them go, where do they go? They invite us out to meet the world and bring the world to us. Perhaps we can be with them here and now just for what they are. But wait.. did you hear that?

And I said No (Dukkha)

Ah yes.. I like this.. wait.. no.. what’s that? What IS that?! Why now? Why there? Why me? No, no. No, I liked it better before.. Wait.. it’s ok, it’s ok now.. I hope this lasts. No. No.. not that again, I say No! but..ah.. yes.. this again. Yes, yes. This I like. I can be here for a while. I can be here for a while…

Me, so me. And you, so you.
So very us.
And yet, and yet…
